Skin Care Guide
Here, I will try to take the mystery out of skin care. I have outlined some sample regimens for some of the most common skin concerns I have encountered in my years of practice. I try to keep it simple and avoid unnecessary steps.
Skin care can be broken down into several basic components:
1. Keeping it clean (cleansing)
2. Keeping it protected (from harmful elements such as ultraviolet radiation)
3. Keeping it moisturized
4. Treating any issues (such as aging changes, dark spots, acne, rosacea, etc)
After cleansing, the usual order of product application starts with medication (if any), followed by lightweight serums or gels, then moisturizers, then sunscreen/makeup.
I mention Renew and SOS creams in the anti-aging categories. if you are already using prescription Retin-A or any of its relatives (tretinoin, Tazorac, Atralin, etc), use that. The Renew and SOS creams are alternatives to the prescription anti-aging creams.
Moisturizer key: We have several moisturizers to address different needs. Not everyone needs a moisturizer. If you have oily skin, you probably don't. However, even oily skin types sometimes need a little moisture to counteract drying effects from acne or anti-aging products. When the moisturizer step is mentioned, use the following guide:
1. Oily/acne-prone: Hydralite Plus (oil-free, and contains an antimicrobial peptide)
2. Oily or Normal: Peptide Hydrating Gel (very light, and contains anti-aging peptides)
3. Normal to Dry: Replenish Cream (light and luxurious cream, yet very hydrating)
4. Dry/Damaged: Skin Therapy Cream (rich moisture cream, helps heal skin barrier)
5. Dry/Sensitive: NiaCream (intense moisturizing, with niacinamide to address redness)
